There are many people who use snow throwers, but there are still others who prefer shoveling. After this latest blast of snow in the northeast here are a few tips to help you keep safe while you are doing manual snow removal:

Remember, if you are out of shape, do not exercise regularly, have heart problems or have trouble breathing – don’t shovel.

Dress in layers.

Stretch before you shovel and get those muscles working prior to shoveling snow.

Bend at the knees, not at the waist and lift with your legs to protect your back from injury.

If the snow is light and fluffy, push it out of the way but shift your body weight from your back leg to your front leg instead of bending at the waist.

Stay safe during your snow storms.  Take precautions. But most importantly take the extra time to spend it with family!
